I heart scanner

Yesterday I got my Epson 2450 scanner in the mail. I won it on ebay and shipping cost me as much as I won it for, but WHATEVER! It's an old discontinued model, but if you are interested in scanning negatives up to 4x5, I would recommend trying to find one while they're still kicking around.

One thing I have wanted to do for a while is to scan all of my grandfathers old negatives. It's going to be a huge undertaking but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I have only about 30 frames scanned already, I was using them for a couple of books that I made last year. Aside from just having a digital archive of his images, I feel like I still want to work with them in some way.
My Grandfather was a great portrait photographer. He inspired me to get into photography in the first place. I have fond memories of him in his tiny dark room in the basement of my Grandparents house. Oh, how I both loved and feared that red light.
After having gone through some of his old film, I was really amazed at some of the candid moments he captured. Even when people were posed, he seemed to manage to capture something inexplicably special. Whenever I look at them I realize that he still inspires me to be a better portrait photographer from beyond the grave, and I'm proud to have his film. It's given me glimpses of his past with his children and his life with my Grandmother. Not everybody has that privilege.
I'll eventually post some of my favorites. Here is one:

I'm also scanning a bunch of my old drawings/sketches, negatives, books, etc.
Stay tuned.

Everything always slows down once school lets out but these may be a part the start of a series I've been thinking of about for a while. Taken a few months ago? ps, my concept of time... not so good.

remnants. loss. senses. recollection. physicality. absence. sentiment. materiality.

These are my silkscreened prints from my series of crests. All three prints are an edition of 2 and were hung next to each other. Excuse the mad glare, I need to take better photos of them sans the frames but until then...
